Just had the Cob in for its MOT and the guy there was insistent that it required a full emissions test, claiming that the regulations had changed.

He could only show me 'proposed changes' on the .GOV site. I must admit I was very concerned during the test.

They've visually tested it every year since it was registered based on the age of the engine. This time he wanted to go off the year of registration.

I've looked on the various sites and it doesn't seem to be very clear at all.

Hi Dave,

I’ve not seen or heard anything to that effect. I’m sure he’s wrong, you can’t suddenly change the rules like that (well technically they can, but I doubt they would).

I can’t find any reference to any changes other than those introduced in 2018 for diesel vehicles.

I think you probably need to find a new testing station that is more familiar with the rules.

Mines going in for its first test on 8th Aug. I went to my MOT guy a couple of weeks ago to ask if there's anything he wants to see put on the car for testing (Fog's, side repeaters, Modern number plates etc). We talked about emissions and cats and he said that it was based on engine build date not car reg date (phew). The only thing he wanted me to 'change' was to add modern plates and remove or cover the pit lifters, which I was pleased with as I thought id be adding a fog lamp and side repeaters as a minimum.

Well done Dale - did you have to do anything about hazard flashers?
